Mystical Lakes As a long time admirer of the German Romantic Painter Caspar David Friedrich 1774-1840, Wallis endeavours to wrap her lakescapes in the mysterious , if not mystical light of Friedrich's paintings. Catalogue available.
Birds and Their Nests - NEW SERIES The location of Wallis' country studio is in the heart of Prince Edward County, Ontario an area that boasts the highest concentration and abundance of migratory birds anywhere on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario. To date over 337 species of birds are on record. It is no wonder that birds and their habitats have made there way into her work.
The Land Wallis takes her creative cues from nature. Inspired by the rural landscapes of her second home in Prince Edward County, Ontario, she states "I enjoy the unexpected accidents that can happen in nature and gardening. I try to embrace the notion of the unexpected in my work by not approaching the canvas with too many preconceived ideas or expectations."
Word The Word series was as a result of Wallis' reading of the work of Vladimir Nabokov and her research into the scientific phenomenon of synesthesia. Synesthesia is the involuntary joining of the senses in which the real information of one sense is accompanied by a perception in another sense. Wallis expands on Nabokov's alphabet in colour to include an exploration into the colour of words. Catalogue available.
Where Culinary and Encaustic Art Meet New paintings in collaboration with renowned Chef Michael Potters inspired by the scientific phenomenon of Synesthesia and the world of cooking.

A Search for the Sublime Solo Show at Elevation Gallery
Oct.24th to Nov. 1st 2009
Canmore, Alberta
www.elevationgallery.ca

Through my painting of the natural world I seek to paint not only the blissful enjoyment of a beautiful view, but more importantly, an instance of sublimity.
A reunion with the spiritual self through the contemplation of nature. The landscape to me is not the backdrop but is in itself a self-contained emotive subject.

Opening Receptions:
Saturday August 8th 2009 7-9 pm
Sunday August 9th 1-4 pm

Once again I celebrate the bucolic landscape of Prince Edward County by depicting the fields, forests and lakes of the area. In addition this year I will be showcasing a new series of work focusing on the bird and their habitats. The study and resulting depiction of nests, birds and eggs eventually led me to build a nest outside the gallery measuring 12 feet in diameter comprised of grapevines from a local vineyard.

The Act of Seeing "A painting must depict the act of seeing, not the object seen."
